What is in one chew

Glucosamine 200 mg. MSM 200 mg. Green-lipped mussel 150 mg. Type II collagen 100 mg. Boswellia 75 mg. Turmeric 60 mg. Plus chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E. Ten active ingredients, and the amount of each of the main six is printed.

Glucosamine is a building block that occurs naturally in cartilage, and type II collagen is the main protein in it. Hyaluronic acid is the molecule that makes joint fluid thick and slippery. Green-lipped mussel is a New Zealand shellfish that carries natural omega-3 fats. MSM is a natural sulphur compound. Turmeric and Boswellia are botanicals with a long history in traditional herbal use.

Chews or powder?

These chews are the easy one. No measuring, no scoop, nothing to hide in dinner. Most dogs take them from your hand. They also carry the wider list, including the green-lipped mussel and the type II collagen.

What else helps an older dog

Most of it is not for sale. Keep the weight down. Several short walks rather than one long one. A ramp into the car. A bed that supports the joints. Rugs or runners on slippery floors. Hydrotherapy or physiotherapy if you can get it.
