What 6 mm gives you

A tidy all-over cut that still looks like coat. The dog comes out freshly groomed rather than shaved. If you only ever buy one extra blade, this is usually the one, and it is the length most dogs get clipped with most of the year.

Pick this one if

• You want a regular body clip every few weeks, all year round
• The coat grows fast and you would rather keep on top of it than rescue it
• The coat is curly, wavy or thick, so comb attachments drag
• This is your first time clipping at home

It is the easiest length to learn on. Short enough to stay clean on muddy walks, long enough that a slightly wobbly line disappears into the coat.

Fitting it takes seconds

Switch the clipper off. Lift the old blade away, seat the 6 mm blade on the head and press until it sits straight. Add a drop of oil along the teeth, run it for a few seconds, then wipe the rest off.

The comb attachments that came with your clipper only fit the 1.5 mm blade. They do not go on the longer blades. Blade oil is sold separately: see Clipper Oil. Fits the Dog Clipper Pro.
